Project Opportunity at Nestlé Purina
"Think Bigger. Act Bigger. Be Bigger" — words of Our Founder that we hold close to heart. We have an opportunity to make extraordinary change in this world, beyond revolutionizing the pet care industry. We're also undertaking the battle of our global unemployment crisis, specifically the need to bridge the skills gaps we're beginning to face.
Led by our greater Nestlé organization as a global effort, we've launched Project Opportunity, a career acceleration initiative to help people of all ages gain work experience and strengthen their professional development skills. It's an unconditional commitment to training highly skilled workers through unique apprenticeship, mentorship, internship and development opportunities. It's the "dare" we accepted from Our Founder from the very beginning — the dare to Stand Taller.
Quotes from Our Associates
When I started the process of joining Nestlé Purina, I was a college senior looking for a position that would ease me into the working world from academia. The Management Development Program felt like the perfect fit. While the main focus initially seemed to be on understanding the physical process of how to make pet food, it also made me aware of other critical functions like logistics, supply chain and everything else that goes into how a factory operates. While at the factories, I was drawn to the science behind making pet food and very eager to learn from the technical folks who came from our St. Louis Headquarters to visit. Now, I'm part of that team. I work on developing new products and providing technical support for our factories. I don't know what the future holds for me at Purina, but knowing the support I have from the company, I look forward to the path I have ahead.

I applied to the program because I like to be self-sufficient. I like being able to take care of own maintenance issues – not just fixing a problem, but understanding how to do it right so the problem isn't recurring. The ability for me to be able to go back to school is a great opportunity. I'll be able to put my schooling to work here to gain valuable expertise at the same time. I love sitting in class learning the daily lesson and building upon it. It's rewarding to answer the hard questions and impress the instructor! I hope to be a valuable asset so I can continue to learn more and show that this program is of value to Nestlé.

I joined the Purina Team as a summer supply chain intern. I saw this as my opportunity to contribute in an impactful way to the business. Being able to say I'm part of something big is rewarding. I was given three main projects to learn how historical spikes and lifts impact the point of sales for our products. My goals were to learn the company, but they've helped me achieve much more than that. I was able to learn how to manage multiple pieces of data while also ensuring that I understood the customer's wants, needs, and desires. My team worked with me to ensure that I gained as much experience and knowledge of the company while also completing my tasks at hand in a fun and encouraging environment. The culture that was shown to me was like none other and demonstrated how a person can love their job while also enjoying to get it done.

I serve as a Public Affairs Noncommissioned Officer for both the 70th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment of the Missouri Army National Guard (Jefferson City, Missouri). I'm proud to serve. But, I'm also a proud Purina associate. I took on the opportunity to join the company as an intern in CheckMark – the creative services team within Purina. It was most important to me to find an employer that would support my goals both professionally and within the military, and one that understands the time commitment and other obligations I have in wearing the uniform and serving my country. Although initially an intern, I now have transitioned into a role where I wear several hats: working with clients, strategists, project managers and designers to help fulfill their intended digital objectives for each of the Purina brands we support. I hope to continue to learn and develop professionally at Purina, to grow my career and inspire those like myself who come into this company to help them along and set them up for future success.

In the summer of 2013, I moved to St. Louis to pursue a marketing internship with Purina. At the time, I was in between my first and second year of the MBA program at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. I was tasked with working for the wet dog food portfolio where I completed several analytical, strategic and creative projects. Upon completing my MBA, I accepted a full-time job opportunity with Purina as a Marketing Associate. Now, a few years later, I am an Assistant Brand manager in the Snacks portfolio. I thought I had learned everything there was to know as an intern, but I continue to learn and stretch my abilities every day. I look forward to continuing to learn.
