Purina Named a 'Best Place to Work' for LGBT Equality

It's abundantly clear, now more than ever, that the world needs to continue making tremendous strides in diversity, equity and inclusion — making it a priority to celebrate the mix of differences and similarities between each other. Today, marriage equality and hate crime protections are the laws of the land. Barriers to LGBTQ+ service in the armed forces are being lifted. Corporations are changing and expanding policies, and prioritizing diversity, equity and inclusion as key elements within their corporate blueprint, ensuring that associates are comfortable being their whole self at work every day.

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) ushers in a new era of corporate equality making it known to the rest of the world who is off the charts in acknowledging and honoring LGBTQ+ equality and showing their pride for LGBTQ+ best companies to work for each year. The HRC Foundation's Corporate Equality Index, since 1980, is the national benchmarking tool for corporate policies and practices pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender employees and their allies. Businesses demonstrate their commitment to equality across every industry and geography, but only some will earn a top score of 100 percent. This perfect score earns the significant distinction of " LGBTQ+ Best Places to Work".

"The HRC is an important organization working for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, and I'm glad to work for an organization that understands the importance of creating an inclusive workplace for all." says Dawn Higgins, Manager of Diversity and Inclusion at Nestlé Purina.

Equality is core to our values and central to the way we do business, treat employees, and value our consumers. Our people are our most important asset — our mission is to continuously find, develop, keep and challenge people from diverse backgrounds.

On average, over 1,000 businesses are rated each year by the HRC Corporate Equality Index (CEI), which evaluates policies and practices, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive healthcare benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBTQ+ at work and in the community.

Since the CEI's inception in 2002, America's largest (and global) employers have begun embracing LGBTQ+ inclusion as a best business practice, Nestlé Purina included. However, there is still work to be done.
