While Nestlé Purina's headquarters is located in St. Louis, MO, 62 percent of our company's associates work within our 19 manufacturing facilities across the United States. Davenport, IA is home to Purina's largest manufacturing facility with 75 buildings on its campus and over 400 employees - many of whom have remained part of the Purina Family for decades.
The city of Davenport is the largest of the Quad Cities and is located just along the banks of the Mississippi River. The region itself rests in North America's wind belt, which puts Davenport at the forefront of renewable energy technology. Purina's factory is just blocks away from downtown Davenport - offering associates and their families the convenience of being moments from the city's highlights in entertainment, art, culture, shopping and civic service.
Nestlé Purina's Davenport factory has been a fixture within this Midwestern city since 1927. From the early 1900s all the way through the mid-'90s, this facility produced cereal (Instant Ralston, Quick Oats, Regular Whole Oatmeal and Flavored Oatmeal). Currently, the Davenport factory is one of Nestlé Purina's eight dry pet food factories within the U.S. and produces several varieties within the following brands: Dog Chow, Puppy Chow, Alpo, Beneful, Purine ONE, Cat Chow, Kitten Chow, Friskies, and Kit N Kaboodle.
Positions are highly sought after within this factory due to its reputation as one of the best employers in the area. The manufacturing industry has been innovative in the Quad City area for generations and the Davenport factory can certainly speak to that aspect. In 1954, it was Purina's first facility to use a pressure-cooking process, called extrusion, to mass produce Dog Chow.
Also unique to our Davenport factory? Nestlé Purina's Management Trainee Program was established here over 30 years ago. Thanks to the success of the program, it is has been implemented at other Purina factories. The program is long-standing and consistently evolving as it develops new talent into Purina's future business leaders within the manufacturing environment.
