Bloomfield is a small town with a rich history. The town was originally founded in 1836 and named for its beautiful wildflowers. Home to one of Nestlé Purina's litter factories, we have been able to call Bloomfield home since 1995.
There is plenty to explore in and around Bloomfield, like the local Stars and Stripes Museum/Library, which shows visitors how the town played an unusual role in the Civil War. With our factory located just two hours from St. Louis, associates and their families have the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the nearby (bigger) city on the weekends.
Cape Girardeau is another city very close by that offers interesting attractions and a convenient lifestyle. Because of its close proximity, many of our associates choose to live there and make the quick commute to work. Its Mississippi River Tales, Lazy L Safari Park and the Trail of Tears State Park are a few popular attractions within the area. This town in Missouri is also home to Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) University – a public university most known for its teaching and nursing programs.
Approximately 240 full-time Purina associates are based at our Bloomfield factory, annually producing more than 500,000 metric tons of cat litter for our Golden Products line. This factory was the first to produce LightWeight litter, which has revolutionized the litter category within the pet care industry – a product that weighs half the amount of conventional litter!
Unique to our Bloomfield factory is the overhead bridge that allows full pallets of finished products to be conveyed to the distribution center, which is just north of the factory. Because of this innovation, in conjunction with various other accomplishments, this factory played a considerable role in earning the Malcolm Baldridge Award.
