LOCAL COMMUNITY
We're giving back to the city we call "home"
United Way
Nestlé Purina employees contribute more than $800,000 each year to the United Way of Greater St. Louis. The funds are used by more than 200 agencies in 16 counties in Missouri and Illinois to provide community services. Similar campaigns at Nestlé Purina's manufacturing locations are helping improve their communities, too.
By supporting our partners in animal welfare, Nestlé Purina helps provide care and adoption for more than 1.5 million pets annually.
PetCare Pride Day
In 2007, Nestlé Purina volunteers from the St. Louis office contributed to the local community
through projects such as:
- building houses for Habitat for Humanity
- preparing 2,000 meals for a local shelter
- making 300 fleece blankets that were donated to a local crisis nursery and local animal shelters
Employees work together on a shelter makeover.
Nestlé Purina employees also participated in an "Extreme Animal Shelter Make-Over" by:
- helping replace fencing for dog runs
- installing new shelving and animal crates
- reorganizing space
Associates also donated their time to build 50 dog beds, 40 dog houses, and 35 cat scratching posts for
local animal shelters.
Youth Education
Nestlé Purina takes an active role in the success of youth education programs, such as the Peabody
Task Force, a committee comprised of St. Louis businesses and dedicated individuals. The Task Force
improved resources at nearby Peabody Elementary School using private funding. Its recent purchase of
state-of-the-art computer technology resulted in a 75 percent increase in student test scores.
